Last in the standings last year, the first to reveal the shapes and colors of its 2022 car Haas – American team headed by Gunther Steiner – has just unveiled shapes and colors of the new VF-22, the car with which Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will take part in the next Formula 1 World Championship.
New era. With the worst season in the team’s short history being archived, Haas aims to return to the core group fight and wants to do it with the VF-22. The one shown today is just a distant relative of the real car that will hit the track in just over two weeks, in the first shakedown in Barcelona. And we will have to get used to this trend, since all the teams will try to hide as much as possible the technical details and solutions born from the interpretation of the new regulation.
Call her Ferrarina. The VF-22 is the daughter of the technical regulation that characterizes the new era of Formula 1. The main innovations are related to aerodynamics, much simplified compared to the past, which on paper should allow for closer fights even at high speeds. Most of the downforce will be generated from the bottom of the car and this has brought the ground effect to the fore, which we will hear about very often throughout the season. The wings, on the other hand, lose part of their importance in generating load, following the simplification of the profiles. The suspensions are push rod at the front and pull rod at the rear. The choice of Haas to use very high and small side bellies is immediately striking, while the whole rear end is the son of Ferrari: the Haas, in fact, in addition to mounting the SuperFast power unit of the Cavallino, also uses the gearbox and the rear suspension of that which will be the new F1-75.
